The
Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a spectacle of record-breaking performances and thrilling moments since its inception in 2008. However, despite 17 seasons of action-packed cricket, several unique milestones are yet to be achieved. Here are five records that remain elusive in IPL history.

Virat Kohli winning an IPL trophy

Virat Kohli is arguably one of the greatest players in IPL history, holding numerous records, including being the highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history. However, despite his individual brilliance, the IPL trophy has remained out of reach for him. He is the only member of the original ‘Fab 3’ of IPL, alongside MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who has not won the coveted title. Kohli has come close, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to the final in 2016, but the ultimate prize still eludes him.

Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals winning an IPL title

While most franchises have had their moment of glory, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals remain the two long-standing teams yet to lift the IPL trophy apart from RCB. Both franchises have made the playoffs multiple times and even reached the final (Punjab in 2014 and Delhi in 2020), but they fell short on the biggest stage. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), though a newer franchise, have also made it to the playoffs but are yet to taste championship success.

1,000 runs by a batter in a single season

Scoring runs consistently in an IPL season is a remarkable feat, but no batter has yet reached the 1,000-run mark. Virat Kohli came the closest in 2016, amassing 973 runs in a single season while leading RCB to the final. It still remains the highest a batter has scored in an IPL season. Despite Kohli’s extraordinary form, the four-digit milestone remains untouched, making it one of the most sought-after records in IPL history.

Five centuries by a batter in a single season

Scoring centuries in T20 cricket is not an easy task, but several batters have managed to reach triple figures multiple times in a single IPL season. Virat Kohli (2016) and Jos Buttler (2022) hold the joint record with four centuries each. However, no player has yet managed to score five centuries in a single season, making this an exciting record waiting to be broken.

A 300-plus total in a match

The IPL has witnessed some incredible batting performances over the years, but no team has managed to breach the 300-run mark in a single match. The highest team total in IPL history was achieved by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who posted a staggering 287/3 against RCB in the 2024 season. With the evolution of power-hitting and aggressive batting strategies, it seems only a matter of time before a team finally crosses the 300-run milestone in IPL.

The
IPL 2025 is all set to begin tonight with a match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
