Hello and welcome to our coverage of the first semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, where Haryana takes on Karnataka at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Wednesday.

TOSS UPDATE: Karnataka won the toss and chose to field first.

It is going to be a tight contest between two tough teams here who have their fair share of strengths and weaknesses. Karnataka will hope that the return of Prasidh Krishna following international duties will be enough to give their bowling the edge needed. The skipper, Mayank Agarwal, on the other hand, will be expected to lead with the bat and continue his stellar run-scoring form.

For Haryana, Anshul Kamboj will have a lot to say, particularly with the new ball. If he can get some movement going for him, he can be a force to be reckoned with early into his innings. Amit Rana and Nishant Sindhu will also be expected to chip in when necessary.

As per Accuweather, expect partly cloudy skies with humidity rates touching the 47 per cent mark. It’s going to be a tough day for the bowlers, but perhaps the presence of dew could be a factor coming in the second innings.

Agarwal being on fire is a great thing but it’s not just him doing the heavy lifting. KV Aneesh has been a solid contributor and so has Krishnan Shrijith. Also, Devdutt Padikkal is back in form just in time, having scored a crucial century against Baroda in the quarterfinals. With this batting lineup, Karnataka look like they can put up some serious runs. On the bowling side, Shreyas Gopal and Vasuki Koushik have been leading the way as their top wicket-takers. While the express pacer Prasidh Krishna is always a dangerous component with the ball. Their experience will be key as they head into this knockout stage. With a balanced mix of strong batting and effective bowling, Karnataka are definitely going to be a tough opponent to beat.

Karnataka are all set as they bring their rich cricketing heritage along for the ride. They finished strong in Group C, snagging second place with just one loss, and they’re fresh off a nail-biting win against Baroda that has everyone buzzing. Leading the charge with the bat is Mayank Agarwal, who’s been on fire this tournament. He’s one of only two players to rack up over 600 runs, including four centuries! His standout innings of 139 against Punjab really shows he can be a game-changer when it counts.

3.6 – Pitches a yard fuller than the previous one, on middle and leg, Himanshu Rana hops across and goes through the flick a bit early. Ends up chipping in the air off the toe-end. But, luckily for him, it lobs up and lands way in front of the mid-wicket fielder. A quick single taken.

In a remarkable journey through the tournament, Haryana has showcased resilience and skill, advancing from their second-place finish in Group A. Their path included victories over Bengal in the preliminary quarters and a nail-biting win against group leaders Gujarat in a low-scoring contest. Their campaign has seen just one setback, ironically against the same Gujarat side. Ankit Kumar’s leadership has been complemented by his prolific batting, amassing over 400 runs with multiple half centuries and a century. The team’s strength has been further bolstered by Nishant Sindhu’s versatile all-round performances, as evidenced by his impactful spell of 3 wickets and crucial 21 runs with bat in the quarter-final.

3.5 – No run, played towards mid off.
