Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma were included in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024 on Friday, January 24. Mandhana was in red-hot form in 2024. She played 13 matches for Women in Blue, and with the help of four centuries and three fifties, scored 747 runs, which is the most by any player.
Deepti, on the other hand, accounted for the dismissal of 24 batters in 13 matches for Team India to finish as the leading wicket-taker in 2024. In addition to her bowling, she scored 186 runs with the bat.
South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 697 runs in 12 matches to finish as the second-leading run scorer, has been named as the opening partner of Mandhana as well as the captain of the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024.
Sri Lankan captain Athapaththu (458 runs in nine matches) and West Indies’ skipper Hayley Matthews (469 runs in seven matches) are also part of the Women’s ODI team of the Year.
Australia has two representatives in the form of Ashleigh Gardner (269 runs, 20 wickets) and Annabel Sutherland (369 runs, 13 wickets), and three players—Amy Jones (328 runs), spinner Sophie Ecclestone (21 wickets), and medium pacer Kate Cross (19 wickets)—are from England.
South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp (449 runs and 11 wickets) is also part of the ICC team, but there were no representatives from 2024 T20 World Cup winners New Zealand.
