India U19 Women’s opening batter, Gongadi Trisha delivered a historic knock against Scotland in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025 as the 19-year-old smashed a blistering unbeaten century in the Super-Six clash that was held in the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
She is a specialist batter who can also be handy with the ball, bowling leg-spin as a part-timer. The budding superstar has had a stellar campaign in the ongoing tournament, with 230 runs to her name to be the leading run-scorer as well, 100 runs ahead of her closest competitor.
Trisha was born in the Badrachalam town of Andhra Pradesh and started her cricketing journey at just two years old. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, it was her father, GV Rami Reddy, that helped her begin her journey in the sport.
“I came to know cricket through my dad at a time when I could barely tell what cricket was,” Trisha was quoted as saying.
“Maybe it’s only as I grow older that I’ll be able to fully appreciate my dad’s contribution in my life and cricket, all the sacrifices he’s made for me, the direction he’s given my life,” she added.
Before she turned nine, she already made her way to represent Hyderabad’s U16 team in 2014-15 and then went on to storm into the U-23 team as well. This was soon followed by her maiden appearances for Hyderabad and South Zone’s U19 team as well.
The youngster credited her father’s structured and planned approach which enabled her to have plenty of domestic experience under her belt.
“It’s majorly down to my dad’s planning. Sure, me gradually taking a liking to the sport did help but had he not got me into the game early, I wouldn’t have been able to have this much domestic cricket under my belt already. I think he has everything sorted in his head since I started playing the sport, with a plastic bat,” she highlighted.
Her father had gone to great lengths to ensure that Trisha had the right preparations as she continued to go up the ranks. This includes having a cement pitch in her local ground along with trainers to help with her coaching which included two hours for each session every day.
Her overall training amounted to around six hours of work being done regularly and it comes as no surprise that she is able to seamlessly take down bowlers in this competition. It would be only a matter of time until she continues to go up the ladder for the big stage.
