Lendl Simmons scored 108 off 59 deliveries to power West Indies Masters to 29-run win against South Africa Masters in Raipur in the International Masters League on Tuesday.
Simmons walked out to bat in the first over after Garnett Kruger accounted for Dwayne Smith. He struck 13 fours and five maximums, allowing West Indies Masters to get 200/5 in its 20 overs.
Chadwick Walton’s sprightly 12-ball 38 made ensured the final flourish which looked unlikely during Brian Lara’s stay at the crease, which got him just 29 runs from 34 deliveries.
Kruger and Makhaya Ntini ended with two wickets each for South Africa Masters.
The Proteas were in the hunt when Richard Levi came out firing with his 16-ball 44. However, the quick departure of Levi, Hashim Amla, and Alviro Petersen left Jacques Kallis and Jacques Rudolph to steer their side back on track.
The pair added 78 for the fourth wicket, and kept their side in the hunt till the end of the 15th over when it needed 58. But Ravi Rampaul and Simmons accounted for the two in the next two overs to extinguish South Africa Masters’ hopes.
