The
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 6 April is set to be rescheduled due to lack of security clearance. The KKR vs LSG game must be moved out of the city or rescheduled due to Ram Navami celebrations.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has called for 20,000 Ram Navami processions in the city. As a result, Kolkata police has decided against giving the go-ahead to the 6 April IPL 2025 match.

No IPL match in Kolkata on Ram Navami

The development was confirmed by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly, who has already informed BCCI about the possible change.

“They have categorically said they won’t be able to provide adequate security. If there’s no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” Snehasish said.

“We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final call. Even last year, a scheduled IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled.”

Even during IPL 2024, KKR’s home match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) was rescheduled due to security concerns on Ram Navami.

The Eden Gardens in Kolkata will also host the opening match of the season with defending champions KKR taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on 22 March. As per reports, an opening ceremony involving singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani will take place before the opener.

“It’s a marquee match with full demand for tickets. Eden Gardens is set to host an opening ceremony after a long time,” Snehasish said.

The CAB president, however, refused to share any more details about the opening ceremony.
