Even as he warmed up with his teammates at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, V. Vyshak had no idea that he would be brought in as an Impact Player for Punjab Kings.
But once the first innings was over and Punjab Kings put up a mammoth 243 for five, the fast bowler from Karnataka was asked to get ready by the team management.
By his own admission, it was a ‘surreal feeling’, but he ensured that he kept his cool and implemented the plan to perfection. When he was introduced in the 15th over, Gujarat Titans was cruising at 169 for two, with Sherfane Rutherford and Jos Buttler in a fiery mood.
Though there were a handful of wides to begin with, Vyshak banked on his yorkers and gave away just 10 runs in his first two overs, which brought the equation to 57 runs needed from the last three.
“When you do it for the team and that, too, in such a situation, you can go back to bed with a lot of happiness,” Vyshak said in a video posted by the franchise.
GT all-rounder Sai Kishore admitted that the batters could’ve tried hitting more boundaries against Vyshak. “All credit to Vyshak for the way he executed his yorkers. To be fair, I think those balls, it’s very easy for me to say, but I think we could have tried to hit more boundaries than just looking for sixes,” Sai Kishore said.
