NEW DELHI: Afghanistan’s star batter Ibrahim Zadran made history by recording the highest individual score in ICC Champions Trophy history. The opener scored a stunning 177 off 146 balls against England in their Group B clash in Lahore on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 165 set by England’s Ben Duckett earlier in the same tournament.
Taking on a strong England bowling attack, Zadran dominated proceedings at a packed Gaddafi Stadium, scoring freely across the ground. His innings featured 12 boundaries and six towering sixes.
Before Zadran’s milestone knock, Duckett’s 165 against Australia in Lahore briefly held the top spot.
Other iconic innings in Champions Trophy history include Nathan Astle’s unbeaten 145 against the USA in 2004, Andy Flower’s 145 against India in 2002, Sourav Ganguly’s unbeaten 141 against South Africa in 2000, Sachin Tendulkar’s 141 against Australia in Dhaka in 1998, and Graeme Smith’s 141 against England in Centurion in 2009.
