Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s admission to his Mumbai teammate and Punjab Kings counterpart Shreyas Iyer regarding his team’s dismal batting performance went viral on Tuesday, after the defending champions slumped to a 16-run defeat while chasing a paltry 112.

After bagging the thrilling and unexpected win, Rahane‘s Mumbai teammate and a very close friend, Iyer, did not know how to contain his emotions as he was over the moon.

Chasing the small target, Kolkata were reduced to 7/2 in the second over, which was followed by a 55-run partnership between Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, taking their team closer to the finish line.

But a mistaken decision from Rahane led to his wicket, and from thereon, a procession of dismissals began as Kolkata were bowled out for just 95, falling to an embarrassing defeat.

After the Punjab players celebrated their win in full ecstasy, they lined up for the customary handshake with the Kolkata players. Rahane had Iyer right in front of him and admitted to his team’s dismal batting show.

Kya faltu batting kari humne,” Rahane seemed to be telling Iyer in the viral clip. Watch the video here:

Meanwhile, Punjab defended the lowest-ever total in Indian Premier League history as they defeated Kolkata.

Chasing 112 for a victory over Punjab, Kolkata were placed at 71/3 in the 10th over, but they suffered an unbelievable collapse to be bowled out for just 95 in the 16th over.

Kolkata lost seven wickets and scored only 24 runs in six overs after that. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the main architect of Punjab’s improbable-looking victory over Kolkata with his brilliant figures of 4/28.

Chahal took the important wickets of Rahane (17), Raghuvanshi (37), Rinku Singh (2) and Ramandeep Singh (0) to orchestrate Kolkata’s unbelievable downfall- the last two in successive deliveries in the 12th over.

KKR play their next match against the Gujarat Titans on April 21 at home.
