The batting positions for Indian middle-order stalwarts, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, have been confirmed days ahead of the start of the
Indian Premier League’s 2025 season. Both players have moved to new franchises after the IPL 2025 auction.
KL Rahul was purchased by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 14 crore while Punjab Kings (PBKS) spent Rs 26.75 crore to acquire their new captain Shreyas Iyer.
It has now been revealed that after
rejecting the captaincy offer at DC, KL Rahul is set to also sacrifice his opening position for a role in the middle-order.

Rahul had continuously opened for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in his three years at the franchise but DC are in need of a solid hand in the middle-order after
Harry Brook’s withdrawal and the Indian batter has been asked to do that job, as per a report in the Times of India.
Rahul batted at No.6 for Team India recently in their victorious Champiosn Trophy 2025 campaign.
“After Harry Brook’s decision to withdraw from the league, DC wanted a right-handed batter in the middle order, and Rahul fits the bill,” the report said.
Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Porel will for DC’s top-order.
Meanwhile, Iyer said on Tuesday that he will most likely be batting at No.3 for PBKS.
“We already know that IPL is an integral part of Indian cricket. And If I would want to mark myself at some position in T20, it would be No. 3,” Iyer said. “And that’s what I’m focusing at. I wouldn’t say that we are planning and thinking about what number I will be batting.
“This time I’m quite clear about that position. And I’m going to be focusing on that number. As long as the coach approves of me.”
Iyer was India’s No.4 in the Champions Trophy 2025 and one of the architects of their title win.
