India all-rounder Harshit Rana shares learnings from Jasprit Bumrah, emphasizing ‘consistency’ and adapting to formats.

India bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has shared learnings from his time with Jasprit Bumrah in the national men’s dressing room. Rana said the biggest aspect he has picked from the Indian vice-captain’s game is ‘consistency’, while most of their chats have surrounded around adapting to different formats.

Rana made his debuts across formats in the last six months. Initially, it coincided with Bumrah’s peak performances in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy but when the senior pacer picked up a serious back injury in the final Test, the team trusted Rana as his replacement, including for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“I get a lot of benefit from working with Jassi bhai. He has a lot of experience. He always guided me on how to bowl in which format,” Rana told reporters after India’s six-wicket win over in the tournament opener against Bangladesh on Thursday, as quoted by PTI. “We used to talk about Test matches in Australia and also about different formats. I got a lot of benefit from that… We often discussed Test matches in Australia and also about various other formats. One thing I have picked up from him is consistency,” he added.

Rana got his ODI debut in the three-match series against England and leapfrogged established names like Mohammed Siraj, who was dropped from the Champions Trophy, and Arshdeep Singh, who was left out of the playing 11 against Bangladesh, to be seen as Bumrah’s replacement for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“Yes of course there is backing from the coach and captain, that is why I am playing… I have trained very hard. I did not get the opportunity initially but waited for my chance. I always gave my 100 percent in practice and always thought to deliver whenever given a chance,” Rana said.

Rana impressed on his ICC white-ball tournament debut with a spell of 3/31 in 7.4 overs. India will now play Pakistan in the same venue, Dubai, with hopes to seal a win and semi-final spot.

“I will take today’s momentum forward. Of course, there’s always a lot of hype around an India-Pakistan game, but we are treating it like any other match,” Rana added.
