Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag has warned his IPL 2025 opponents that the franchise’s Jaipur home — the Sawai Mansingh Stadium — won’t see high-scoring matches and batters will have to ‘work’ for their runs here. He said the pitch offers low bow bounce and demands the batters to get set before trying to hit boundaries.
Having only played matches away or at their second home, the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, RR will host their first match in Jaipur on Sunday, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Apart from the pitch, the stadium also has bigger boundaries than most IPL venues, which makes big-hitting difficult as well.
“The wicket’s a little different,” Parag said before the match as quoted by Cricbuzz. “We’ve been seeing all these 240-260 high-scores where the wickets are pretty flat and the bounce is pretty consistent. Here, it’s a little different, the bounce is a little low, you’ve got to work for your runs, hit a lot of boundaries, run a lot of twos and then once you do that, then you are set, the big shots come in. We’re just figuring those things out and we’ve been practising here a lot, we know that really well,” he added.
Parag will also hope for better performances from his bat at the ground. He was the second-highest run-scorer last year but this time, the right-hander is yet to hit a half-century.
“Last year, everything came together collectively,” Parag said. “Trying to do the same this year, gotten a lot of starts, just trying to convert those starts into big innings. I was 3 for the first two games, I am back at No. 4 now. I’ve been playing at 4 for the last three games. I think that’s gonna be the same for the next few games and the rest of the season. I’m back at my happy place, I hope to contribute a little bit more with the bat and see how it goes,” he added.
The 23-year-old has his goal firmly in his sights.
“Just trying to have another good IPL season and hopefully get back in India colours soon,” he said.
