IPL 2025 Points Table:
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru maintain their spot at the top of the IPL 2025 points table after their win over the Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs. The latter now stands at seventh after their crushing defeat at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium.
RCB, having won both their games in the season so far, also maintains a healthy net run rate of 2.266, while CSK has gone into the negative zone with a net run rate of -1.013. The Rajat Patidar-led side remains the only unbeaten team in the tournament after their stunning display in the two games so far.
CSK was far from being their best on the batting front. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side was tasked with chasing down a whopping 197-run target, thanks to a final-over boost by Tim David, who ended up scoring 22 runs in just 8 balls in his knock. The Chennai batting unit struggled right from the powerplay as Josh Hazlewood’s twin blow removed both Rahul Tripathi and the Gaikwad in the second over of the innings.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the third wicket in the powerplay thanks to a handy DRS call by Virat Kohli himself, which showed that Deepak Hooda had gotten the edge, which reversed the umpire’s decision. From then on, despite bringing in Shivam Dube as the impact substitute, CSK were unable to establish control.
The fans at Chepauk will see the arrival of MS Dhoni as a big positive as he ended up playing out the rest of the innings, hammering a quick cameo of 30 in 16 balls to help reduce the deficit.
