The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League is reportedly set to begin with the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens Stadium which will also host the final as well.
According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the Board of Control for Cricket in India will officially release the schedule for the upcoming season of the IPL early next week. This will include the full list of matches and their respective venues.
The report claims that both Dharamsala and Guwahati will play as the secondary hosts to the Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals respectively. In the previous season, Punjab hosted both Chennai Super Kings and RCB in Dharamsala where they lost both games. But the picturesque venue could get one more match in this year’s schedule and the Kings will hope that they can turn their fortunes around at this venue.
The Royals played PBKS and KKR at Guwahati last year, while they lost the match against Punjab, the match against the Knight Riders ended in a washout.
Interestingly, the defending champions are set to have a new captain leading the side with Shreyas Iyer making the move to the Punjab Kings after being picked up for a whopping Rs 26.75 crore in the 2025 mega auction. He has been officially announced as Punjab’s captain for the coming season.
The Chennai Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikiwad will begin their 2025 season at home, the MA Chidambaram Stadium where they take on Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians. The clash will be an epic battle between the joint-most successful franchises both of whom have five titles each in India’s premier franchise T20 cricket tournament.
RCB have recently announced Rajat Patidar as their new skipper despite reports emerging earlier that Virat Kohli was set to reprise his role as captain. The franchise will hope that their new skipper will be able to end their long-standing wait for the maiden IPL title.
For the Royals, their skipper, Sanju Samson has recently undergone surgery on his finger and will reportedly be fit and ready to go for the upcoming season.
