During IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad went on a rampage as they twice broke the record for the highest innings total in the history of the T20 league. They first surpassed Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s record of 263/5 set in 2013 by racking up 277/3 before coming dangerously close to breaching the 300-run mark when they amassed a stunning 287/3 against RCB. Given the rapid pace at which records are being set and broken, former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has made some bold predictions for the IPL 2025.
Uthappa has a vast IPL experience and represented six different franchises during his playing career including Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, RCB and now defunct Pune Warriors.
The 39-year-old retired from all forms of Indian cricket in 2022 and has since made a transition to commentary. He reckons that IPL has become the “undisputed daddy” of T20 leagues around the world.
“The evolution has been so rapid that it has even left some people struggling to keep up. Cricket used to have a certain romance attached to it, but now, that romance has transformed into something faster, more passionate, and adrenaline-driven. The IPL has become the undisputed ‘daddy’ of T20 leagues worldwide—it has truly come of age,” Uthappa said.
Uthappa, who scored 4952 runs from 205 IPL matches at a strike-rate of 130.35, feels that it’s possible that several milestones including 300 runs in an innings, 1000 sixes, 275-run chase among others could be achieved during the upcioming season.
“While it feels like we have seen it all, I have no doubt that there is still plenty more in store,” Uthappa said. “This season, we might witness 1,000 sixes, a team scoring 300 runs in an innings, or even a 275-plus run chase. We could see a double hat-trick or a record-breaking 150-plus individual score. With IPL, just when you think you’ve seen it all, the game surprises you and says,’Wait, there’s more to come!'”
