The opening game for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League where the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens stadium could be at risk of being delayed due to rain.

The weather has not been ideal for the start of the tournament considering that both teams’ practice sessions a day prior to matchday has also been halted. Presently rain has picked up at the ground which does not bode well for both teams who would want to start of their campaign on a positive note.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata also predicts thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds through certain districts in West Bengal in this period. As a precautionary measure, the ground was put under covers which is not ideal for the start of the tournament.

According to AccuWeather, showers are expected to be present early morning tomorrow and is expected to continue through till noon.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rajat Patidar are set to lead their respective franchises for the first time and both captains will be hoping to get a full game to give them the best chance of getting a win on the board.

Both teams will be hoping that they can see clear skies before the toss to ensure that they can start the game on time without losing any overs.
