Australia speedster Mitchell Starc created history as he became the most expensive cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday. Starc was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore at the IPL auction in Dubai. With this, Starc succeeded in surpassing his fellow countryman and Australia skipper Pat Cummins as the costliest buy in IPL history. Cummins had set the record for the most expensive signing earlier on Tuesday after he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. Coming back to Starc, the Aussie fast bowler’s signing brought delight to the Kolkata Knight Riders camp who shared an innovative post referring to Tony Stark, a fictional character, popularly known by his alias Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) media franchise. The official handle of Sunrisers Hyderabad shared a post in which Starc can be seen in the iconic Iron Man costume. “We won, Mr. Starc,” Kolkata Knight Riders wrote on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, sharing a superimposed picture of Starc.
We won, Mr. Starc!

Starc has only featured in 27 matches in the IPL so far. The left-arm pacer has 34 wickets under his belt. Previously, Starc was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2014 and 2015 seasons and he was later signed by Kolkata Knight Riders. Starc was brought by Kolkata Knight Riders at the IPL 2018 auction for Rs 9.4 crore but the 33-year-old could not take part in the competition due to injury issues. As a result, Starc was eventually released by the Kolkata team management. Starc will now be eager to script a memorable comeback to IPL as the most expensive cricketer in the history of the competition.
