Virat Kohli won the medal for the best fielder after India‘s comfortable win over New Zealand in their third and final Group A match of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Sunday. Kohli was a livewire on the field and took a sky-high catch of Matt Henry which also helped Varun Chakaravarthy complete a maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs.
The fielding medal was presented by throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne. However, before he could do the honours, the medal went missing for a brief period.
Normalcy was restored when Axar Patel, one of three contenders that also included Shreyas Iyer, found the missing prize.
India fielding coach T Dilip was all praise for India’s ‘bullet throw’s during the match against New Zealand that didn’t allow the opponent batters especially Daryl Mitchell to rotate the strike regularly.
“We always speak about gun fielding unit. For me, the most important for that is being proactive. Different phases of the game we squeezed in and especially when Mitchell came in – he couldn’t rotate the strike. They way the bullet throws came in from the outfield and the infield really squeezed them up,” Dilip said.
