A debut could not have been better than this for Zeeshan Ansari who helped his side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put up a fight against Delhi Capitals (DC)
despite the team scoring just 163 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. On his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut, the 25-year-old spinner, Zeeshan Ansari, took three wickets.

Zeeshan Ansari was included in SRH’s playing XI in place of Simarjeet Singh and it proved to be a masterstroke by captain Pat Cummins as the leg-break spinner was the only SRH bowler to make an impact on the day.

DC lost their first wicket in the ninth over and at the score of 81 as Faf du Plessis departed immediately after scoring a fifty. Credit must go to Wiaan Mulder also who took a brilliant catch at deep mid-wicket.

Jake Fraser-McGurk was Zeeshan Ansari’s second wicket as he created a caught and bowled dismissal before cleaning up KL Rahul who missed out on a sweep.

He eventually finished with bowling figures of 3/42 from three overs as DC won by seven wickets.

Who is Zeeshan Ansari?

The 25-year-old leg-break googly bowler, Zeeshan Ansari, hails from Lucknow and was bought for Rs 40 lakh by SRH in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has played five first-class matches for Uttar Pradesh, picking 17 wickets at 30.76.

Zeeshan Ansari, however, has only played one T20 for UP, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2019 but he failed to take a wicket back then.

Zeeshan Ansari’s best came at the inaugural UP T20 league where he took 24 wickets for Meerut Mavericks in 12 matches at an economy rate of 7.60. His impactful bowling helped the Meerut Mavericks win the title.

Zeeshan Ansari was also a part of India’s Under-19 batch of 2016 which included Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan.
