Star English batter Nat Sciver-Brunt on Thursday (March 13) broke legendary Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry’s record of 972 runs to become the leading run scorer in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history. The 32-year-old English star, who has been associated with Mumbai Indians since the first season, has 997 runs to her name in 28 WPL matches played so far.
In the WPL 2025 eliminator against Gujarat Giants, which is currently underway at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Sciver-Brunt scored 77 runs from just 41 balls. During her stay at the crease, she hammered 10 fours and two sixes. The right-handed batter added 133 runs for the second wicket with Hayley Matthews, who got out after making 77 runs from 50 balls.

Sciver-Brunt, who became the first batter to score 400 runs in one edition of WPL in the last league stage match played on March 11, became the first batter to score five half-centuries in one edition of the WPL on Thursday. She completed her fifty against GG with a six on the 29th ball of her innings.
Had she managed to score at least three more runs in the eliminator, she would have become the first batter to score 1000 runs in WPL history.
Sciver-Brunt, who is leading the Orange Cap race in WPL 2025, needed 80 runs in the first knockout match of the third season to cross the 1000-run mark, but in an attempt to hit six off Danielle Gibson’s bowling, she handed a catch to Phoebe Litchfield.
She was given a lifeline by Tanuja Kanwar when she was batting on 71 runs from 37 balls, but she failed to make the most of it and got out on the fifth ball of the same over.
Sciver-Brunt has 493 runs to her name in nine WPL matches played so far in the ongoing season.
If Mumbai Indians manage to qualify for the final on Thursday, Sciver-Brunt will have a chance to complete 1000 runs in WPL on Saturday (March 15) and also become the first player to score 500 runs in one edition of the WPL.
