In his first-ever IPL match for Mumbai Indians, 24-year-old Puthur accounted for the dismissal of three Chennai Super Kings batters at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

24-year-old Kerala spinner Vignesh Puthur made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians on Sunday (March 23) after replacing Rohit Sharma as an impact player in Chennai Super Kings’ 156-run chase at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and finished with figures of 3 for 32 in four overs.
Puthur was introduced to the attack in the eighth over of CSK’s innings by MI captain Suryakumar Yadav, and on the fifth ball of his first over, he dismissed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad was caught by Will Jacks after making 53 runs from 26 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
On the fourth ball of his second over, Puthur dismissed Shivam Dube, who handed a simple catch to Jacks near the boundary line after hitting nine runs from seven balls.
The youngster from Kerala, who was signed for Rs 30 lakh by MI in the IPL 2025 mega auctions, was smacked for a big 85-m six by Rachin Ravindra on the first ball of the 12th over of the run chase, but on the fourth ball he dismissed Deepak Hooda to take his tally of wickets to three in the first-ever IPL match. The former PBKS and LSG star was caught by Satyanarayana Raju after making three runs from five balls.
