After suffering a defeat in the ODI series opener, Sri Lanka will now be aiming to keep the series alive when they next face New Zealand in the second match slated to be held on Wednesday.
In the first ODI, Sri Lanka were kept to 178 in 43.4 overs. Avishka Fernando was Sri Lanka’s highest scorer of the match having played a fine knock of 56. Fernando’s crucial knock comprised six fours and a six. He stitched 87-run stand for the fifth wicket with Janith Liyanage, who was dismissed for 36.
Matt Henry was New Zealand’s star performer with the ball as he claimed four wickets. Henry scripted impressive figures of 4/19 in his 10 overs.
Nathan Smith and Jacob Duffy picked up two wickets each.
New Zealand did not face much trouble during their run chase as they reached the target with 142 balls to spare. Will Young produced a brilliant innings of 90 to guide New Zealand to an emphatic nine-wicket win. Henry was adjudged Player of the Match for his spectacular bowling.
