Star India and Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma has said that during the past few weeks, when he was unable to score runs in the Indian Premier League, besides his mentor Yuvraj Singh, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also kept in touch with him.

Abhishek changed his luck in style as he smacked 141 runs off just 55 deliveries to help Pat Cummins and Co. chase down 246 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12.

This effort from Abhishek helped Hyderabad chase down the massive target with eight wickets in hand and nine deliveries to spare.

“This one is very special because I wanted to break that losing streak. Losing four back-to-back matches was very tough. But we never talked about it in the team. Special mention to Yuvi Paji (Yuvraj Singh) and Suryakumar (Yadav) as well. They have been in touch with me,” Abhishek said while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony.

After the victory over Punjab, Hyderabad moved to the eighth place from last in the points table, with four points from six games and a net run rate of -1.24.

Abhishek said that the atmosphere in the franchise never changed despite the losses, which was one of the reasons Hyderabad could chase down the big total.

“The atmosphere was simple even though the batters were not doing well. I have been waiting for them (his parents). My whole team was waiting for my parents because they’ve been lucky for SRH,” Abhishek said.

The star Indian batter said that the easy-paced pitch gave him options to invent and innovate his shots.

“If you have seen me close enough, I never play behind the wicket. But I wanted to invent a few shots which were very easy on this wicket. It helped us both (him and opening partner Travis Head),” Abhishek said.

It was the star Indian batter, who had been struggling for form this season, that stole the show with an astonishing display of clean hitting.

SRH play their next game against the Mumbai Indians on April 17 at the latter’s home.
