Pat Cummins made history having emerged as the second-most expensive player in the history of the IPL.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins secured a big contract today at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad shelled out a whopping amount of Rs 20.5 crore to complete the signing of Cummins in Dubai. Cummins did secure the most expensive contract in the history of the IPL but the record was soon broken by his Australia teammate Mitchell Starc. Kolkata Knight Riders roped in Starc for a record-breaking amount of Rs. 24.75 cr. Before Cummins’ signing, the previous record for the most expensive IPL contract was secured by England’s Sam Curran who had joined Punjab Kings for Rs 18.5 crore at IPL 2023 auction.
Following his signing, Cummins expressed his excitement to don the Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey in the next edition of the IPL. The World Cup-winning Australia skipper was also delighted with the prospect of sharing the Sunrisers Hyderabad dressing room with his fellow countryman Travis Head.
“Pumped to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL season. I’ve played at Hyderabad a lot of times and loved it. Can’t wait to get started. Great to see another Aussie in Travis Head there. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun this season,” Cummins was heard saying in a video shared by the official handle of Sunrisers Hyderabad on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
“This little Pat of life is called happiness. Welcome, Cummins,” read the post shared by Sunrisers Hyderabad.”

Apart from England Test captain Ben Stokes, Cummins has now become the only cricketer to feature twice on the list of top-10 expensive IPL buys. At the IPL 2020 auction, Cummins was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the then record-breaking amount of Rs 15.5 crore.
In IPL, Cummins has picked up 45 wickets having featured in 42 matches so far. His best bowling figures are 4/34. In the batting department, Cummins’ stats are no less impressive. The 30-year-old enjoys a sublime strike rate of 152.21 in IPL. Cummins also has three half-centuries under his belt in the competition. In IPL 2021, Cummins produced a blistering knock of unbeaten 66 off 34 balls against Chennai Super Kings. That is his highest score in IPL as well.
