Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are close to signing unsold Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur for the
upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after their Indian-heavy pace attack faced a streak of injury issues. Shardul Thakur is reportedly expected to replace Mohsin Khan.

Shardul has been training with the LSG side and has been asked to travel with the team to Visakhapatnam for their IPL 2025 opener against Delhi Capitals on Monday, a report in Times of India stated.

LSG’s senior Indian pacers face injury setbacks

Mohsin had suffered an ACL injury three months back and then picked up a calf train after he started bowling LSG nets, the report added.

Besides Mohsin, LSG are also fretting over their other Indian pacers. Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav are still recovering from their respective injuries at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Mayank has had multiple injury issues recently including side strain, hamstring problem and back issues. He has not played any competitive cricket since October last year.

Avesh Khan is also still to join the team after recovering from a knee injury.

LSG mentor and former India pacer Zaheer Khan, however, is not losing his sleep over the difficult situation and plans to adopt a wait-and-watch policy.

“The situation is dynamic for some of our players due to injuries. But it’s time that we look for positives and adopt things to tackle the situation amicably. Some players are at the National Cricket Academy and others are spending time with their physios. Right now, it will not be right to say anything about this. The situation will be dynamic this season,” Zaheer told media.

If Shardul joins the team, he will be expected to lead the pace attack alongside Shamar Joseph. LSG also have youngsters Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Prince Yadav in their squad.
