NEW DELHI: Cricket South Africa named Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen in their 16-player T20 squad for the upcoming series against India. The announcement came on Thursday for the four matches scheduled between November 8-15.
Following their recovery from injuries, the squad welcomes back several experienced players including Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, and David Miller.
The selection committee has given 24-year-old Mihlali Mpongwana his first international opportunity. His selection follows an impressive performance in the CSA T20 Challenge, where he claimed 12 wickets with an average of 14.08.
South Africa has decided to give Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi a break from the T20 series, considering the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka later in November.
The series against India begins in Durban on November 8, followed by matches in Port Elizabeth on November 10, Pretoria on November 13, and concludes at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on November 15.
“It’s both an exciting and important series for us as we continue to build towards the T20 World Cup in 2026. The squad has a nice mix of youth and experience, and I am looking forward to seeing us deliver some quality performances against a very attacking Indian T20 outfit,” said coach Ron Walter in a statement.
Squad:
Aiden Markram (captain), Ottneil Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Donovan Ferreira, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Patrick Kruger, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Mihlali Mpongwana, Nqaba Peter, Ryan Rickelton, Andile Simelane, Lutho Sipamla, Tristan Stubbs.
