Young Indian batter Tilak Varma is in red-hot form these days. The 22-year-old left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 72 runs for India on Saturday in the second T20I against England, which was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. During his stay at the crease in Chennai, Tilak faced 55 balls and hammered four fours and five sixes. For his super show with the bat, the left-handed batter who made his T20I debut for India in August 2023 against the West Indies won the Player of the Match award as well.
The 72-run knock in the second T20I on Saturday helped Tilak achieve a massive feat in T20Is. The Hyderabad-based cricketer became the first player in the world (full member nations) to score 300+ runs in T20Is without getting dismissed. In his last four T20I innings for India, Tilak has registered scores of 107 (from 56 balls) vs. South Africa, 120 from 47 balls against South Africa, 19, and 72 not out vs. England.
His total of 318 runs is the most between two dismissals in T20Is by any batter. Tilak broke New Zealand batter Mark Chapman’s record of 271 runs. Chapman scored 65*, 16*, 71*, 104*, and 15 runs.

In addition to that, Tilak also broke Virat Kohli’s record for scoring the most runs for India across four consecutive innings. Kohli scored 258 runs (72*, 77, 66, 43) in the 2014-2015 season. Tilak and Kohli are followed by Sanju Samson, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan, who amassed a total of 257, 253, and 252 runs, respectively.

Thanks to Tilak’s 72-run knock on Saturday, India chased down the target of 166 runs in 19.2 overs for the loss of 8 wickets and won the match by two wickets. For India, apart from Tilak, Washington Sundar scored 26 runs from 19 balls. The duo added 38 runs for the sixth wicket to keep India alive in the game after the hosts were struggling at 78 for 5 at one point.
For the English team, fast bowler Brydon Carse picked up three wickets for 29 runs in four overs, and one Indian batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Jamie Overton, and Liam Livingstone.
