In women’s cricket, New Zealand ended their decades-long wait and won the T20 World Cup crown in Dubai. With 2024 now coming to a close, let’s have a look at the top men’s and women’s bowlers who led from the front and found the most success in T20Is for their respective sides. –
Top 5 Men’s T20I Wicket-takers in 2024:
Ehsan Khan, Hong Kong: Hong Kong’s veteran pacer Ehsan Khan was spotless in T20I cricket this year. The 40-year-old scalped 46 wickets in 27 matches.
Junaid Siddique, UAE: UAE bowler Junaid Siddique took 40 T20I wickets in 2024. He played 25 matches and bowled a total of 95.3 overs.
Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka and Usman Najeeb, Saudi Arabia: Rounding off the top three is Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga who scalped 38 wickets in 20 T20Is. Joining him is Saudi Arabia Usman Najeeb who recorded the same haul in 21 games.
Arshdeep Singh (India), Yasin Patel (Kuwait) and Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan): Arshdeep Singh, Yasin Patel and Shaheen Shah Afridi are leveled in fourth place with 36 T20I wickets in 2024.
Adam Zampa, Australia and Rishad Hossain, Bangladesh: Adam Zampa scalped 35 wickets in 21 T20Is this year whereas Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain acquired the same figure in three extra matches.
Top 5 Women’s T20I Wicket-takers in 2024
Henriette Ishime, Rwanda: Leading the list is Rwanda’s Henriette Ishime who took a whopping 50 T20I wickets in 2024. She played 33 matches, bowling at an 8.44 average and with an economy of 4.03.
Marie Bienyimana, Rwanda: Taking second place is Rwana’s Marie Bienyimana who scalped 43 wickets in 33 games. She bowled at an economy of 3.71.
Rosine Irera, Rwanda: The third Rwanda bowler to feature on this list, Rosine Irera also had a stellar year in the format. She took 41 wickets in 33 matches.
Alice Ikuzwe, Rwanda: In fourth place, we have Rwanda’s Alice Ikuzwe who took 36 wickets in 25 watches. She boasts an average of 9.97.
Mengting Liu, China: China’s Mengting Liu seals the fifth place with 34 wickets in 16 matches. She has a staggering average of 6.58 and a 3.86 economy.
