If Virat Kohli manages to score at least 17 runs against the Mumbai Indians on Monday (April 7), then he will become the first Indian to score 13,000 runs in T20s.

Virat Kohli will be in action for Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (April 7). The 36-year-old right-handed batter will take the field for the Rajat Patidar-led side against the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2025 match which is scheduled to take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. During RCB’s fourth league stage match of the ongoing season, Kohli will have a chance to create history.
If during the high-voltage IPL 2025 match between the two star-studded teams Virat Kohli manages to score at least 17 runs, then he will become the first Indian and overall fifth batter in the world to score 13,000 runs in T20s.
Kohli made his T20 debut on April 3, 2007, for his domestic side Delhi against Himachal Pradesh and since then has played 402 matches, in which, with the help of nine centuries and 98 fifties, he has scored 12,983 runs.
Kohli has scored 8101 runs in 255 IPL matches for the Bengaluru-based franchise, and he also has 424 runs to his name in 15 Champions League matches as an RCB player.

Former West Indies opener and captain Chris Gayle holds the world record for scoring the most runs in T20s. During his 17-year-long career, Gayle played for over two dozen teams and scored 14,562 runs in 463 runs. In the list of leading run-scorers, he is followed by England’s Alex Hales (13,610 runs), Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (13,557 runs) and West Indies’ Kieron Pollard (13,537 runs).

In the IPL, Kohli has scored 855 runs in 33 matches against the Mumbai Indians. If he manages to score at least 96 runs on Monday, then he will also break KL Rahul’s record and become the leading run scorer in the world’s richest franchise cricket league against the five-time champions. Rahul, who is playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, has scored 950 runs in 18 matches against Mumbai Indians.

Kohli’s performance in IPL 2025
Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 runs in RCB’s first match of IPL 2025, played against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22, and in the second match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, he scored 31 runs from 30 balls. However, in the last match played against Gujarat Titans at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, he was sent back to the pavilion by former MI pacer Arshad Khan after making just 7 runs from six balls on April 2.
