Kohli has 161 catches to his name in 301 ODIs for Team India. In the list of players with most catches in ODIs, only Mahela Jayawardene is ahead of him now.

Virat Kohli entered his name in the history books on Tuesday (March 4) by becoming the second most successful fielder in ODIs. The 36-year-old cricketer from Delhi completed two catches in the first half of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal between India and Australia in Dubai, and it helped him extend his tally of catches to 161 in 301 ODIs played so far.
Kohli broke Ricky Ponting’s record of 160 matches and took the No. 2 position in the elite list led by former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene.

Kohli, who scored a century for India in the Group A match against Pakistan in Dubai on February 23, equalled Ponting’s tally by taking Josh Inglis’ catch on the last ball of 27th over and then went past his 160-catches mark by completing Nathan Ellis’ catch on the last ball of 49th over of Australian innings bowled by Mohammed Shami.
Kohli has impressed with his fielding in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. In four matches played so far, the former India captain has completed seven catches, which is the most by any player.
50th ODI for Kohli vs Aus
The ongoing first semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai is Kohli’s 50th ODI match against Australia, and the right-handed batter will be eager to come up with a big show with the bat and help India secure a win.
The Indian team bowled Australia out for 265 in the first innings after captain Steve Smith opted to bat first. For the Men in Yellow, Smith scored 73 runs from 96 balls, and Alex Carey hammered 61 runs from 57 balls. Mohammed Shami picked up three wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs, and two Aussie batters each were sent back to the pavilion by Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy.
