India’s senior batter and former skipper, Virat Kohli’s lack of form with the bat has seen the superstar reaching an all-time low in the ICC’s Men’s Test Batter’s Rankings.

The 36-year-old has now fallen three more spots down to 24th in the charts and has 633 rating points. His ranking is at its lowest since August 19, 2014. The veteran’s form with the bat has been a real concern for many as fans continue to worry if this is the end for the batting great.

Similarly, the captain of the Indian Test Team, Rohit Sharma has also fallen to the 40th position in the batter’s charts after his single-digit scores of 3 and 9 at the MCG for the Boxing Day Test.

Kohli showed promising signs during the first game at Perth where he scored a century in the second innings as India went on to win the Test by a massive 295-run margin to take a lead. But since then, his first innings knock of 36 at Melbourne is his next-best score.

His best years were during the 2018 season where he scored a whopping 1322 runs in 13 games at an average of 55.08 with five fifties and hundreds each. But since then his runs have come down drastically and have never been the same.

With reports suggesting that there is chaos within the Indian dressing room after the loss in Melbourne, Kohli’s future with the side remains a mystery. Should India not win the Sydney Test, it would mean the end of their World Test Championship campaign and the team’s run of disappointing performances could see the side undergo a major overhaul.

Kohli would hope that he can return to form in Sydney where he holds a decent record with 250 runs from the three games he has played so far.

He will be expected to take more responsibility with his game and help the side improve their batting, an aspect that has largely disappointed for quite some time now. Both teams will be hoping to put in their best performances considering what’s at stake.
