Star England fast bowler Jofra Archer helped Rajasthan Royals get off to a flying start in the ongoing IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings. In the match currently underway at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Archer first clean bowled Priyansh Arya on the first ball of the PBKS innings, and then on the last ball of the first over, he dismissed Shreyas Iyer as well. Like Arya, Iyer was also bowled by the English speedster, who joined RR for Rs 12.50 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Iyer hammered Archer for two fours in the first over, but Archer managed to get revenge, and then he celebrated in style after taking the big wicket.

Iyer has been in red-hot form in the IPL this year. He remained unbeaten on 97 runs in PBKS’ first match of IPL 2025, played against Gujarat Titans on March 25, and in the second match against Lucknow Super Giants, the right-handed batter from Mumbai remained unbeaten on 52 runs.

The wicket of Iyer on Saturday helped Archer join legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne in an elite list. The 30-year-old pacer became the fifth bowler to take 50 wickets in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals. The ongoing match between RR and PBKS in Mullanpur is Archer’s 39th IPL match for the Jaipur-based franchise, and he now has 50 wickets to his name.

The record of taking most wickets in the IPL for RR is held by Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal played 46 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals from 2022 to 2024 and picked up 66 wickets. He is followed by Siddharth Trivedi (65 wickets), Shane Watson (61 wickets) and Warne (57 wickets).

Warne, who led RR to the IPL title win in 2008, was the first bowler to take 50 wickets in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals.

Archer’s record for RR

Archer made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2018. He played 10 matches that season and accounted for the dismissal of 15 batters. In IPL 2019, Archer finished with 11 wickets in 11 matches. The cricketer from England, who played a big role in England’s 2019 ODI World Cup title win, finished with 20 wickets in 14 matches of IPL 2020. For his brilliant show with the ball in the 2020 edition of the IPL, Archer also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

In the IPL, apart from RR, Archer has also played five matches for the Mumbai Indians across three seasons but was only able to take two wickets.
