Rajasthan Royals‘ new recruit Nitish Rana accidentally crushed a camera set-up in the team’s pre-IPL 2025 season training camp. A video of the moment has now gone viral on social media.
Rana, who won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Kolkata Knight Riders last season, was picked by the Jaipur-based franchise for Rs 4.2 crore at the mega auction.
The 31-year-old batter recently began his preparation for the upcoming campaign. In a video shared by RR on Instagram, Rana was captured grinding on his batting skills along with his new teammates at the training camp. “Watch till the end to feel the dard (pain),” read the caption of the post.
When the practice session was underway, several cameras were placed across the ground. One of them was destroyed by Rana who tried out different shots while facing a net bowler. The pacer attempted a yorker but missed the line by some inches.
As the delivery pitched outside his off stump, Rana went for a late drive, targeting the third-man region. The southpaw connected it perfectly and the ball directly crashed on a tripod which was kept just outside the crease. As the camera set-up toppled, Rana humorously showed a thumbs-up to it.
RR, known for their creative social media posts, announced the arrival of Rana in a Bollywood style. The franchise dropped a Chhaava-themed promo where Rana donned the royal look of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
While standing in front of his troops like a ‘Maharaja’, Rana said, “The time has come. Now, there will be an attack. Every upcoming trouble will be burnt to ashes. Every attempt to defeat us will be crushed. Every fan’s dream, we will fulfill for sure.”
Rana was a key member of the KKR unit from 2016 to the last season. He was appointed as their captain for the 2023 IPL, which their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer missed due to an injury.
During his seven-year spell with Kolkata, Rana featured in 108 IPL matches and registered 2,636 runs at an average of 28.65. He will be seen in the pink jersey for the first time when RR face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their campaign opener on March 23.
