Rohit recently clinched his second ICC title — following the T20 World Cup win last year — as India defeated New Zealand by four wickets to win the Champions Trophy as he smashed 76 from just 83 deliveries.

Rohit became the second most successful Indian captain in terms of ICC titles as he became the first captain in international cricket to lead his team in the final of all four major ICC events.

MS Dhoni continues to be the most successful Indian captain with three ICC titles to his name – the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Rohit has joined the list with two ICC titles in less than a year’s gap to finish ahead of legendary cricketers Sourav Ganguly (2002 Champions Trophy) and Kapil Dev (1983 ODI World Cup).

In the run-up to the tournament, there were talks around Rohit’s retirement from the ODI format after the Champions Trophy, as he had retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup.

But Rohit simply rejected the theories at the post-match press conference following the final.

“One more thing, I’m not going to retire from this format, just to make sure no more rumours are spread,” Rohit told reporters after winning the player-of-the-match award.

Rohit will be in action for Mumbai Indians (MI) next in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

MI’s first two IPL 2025 will be played away from home –  in Chennai against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23 in Chennai, before travelling to Ahmedabad to face off against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 29.

MI’s first home match at the Wankhede Stadium will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31, before traveling to Lucknow for facing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 4 and then coming back to home to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7.
