India vice-captain Shubman Gill landed in Mumbai on Tuesday (March 11) after returning from Dubai where the Men in Blue won the 2025 Champions Trophy. He was seen coming out of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the evening.
India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the final on Sunday, becoming the most successful team in the Champions Trophy with three titles. Gill, in a leadership role for the first time in a senior ICC tournament, scored 188 runs in five matches, including an unbeaten century against Bangladesh in the opening clash.
Like the rest of his teammates, he arrived in Mumbai amid cheers from the crowd, flashes of cameras and guarded by a tight line of security. Watch the video here:
This was the 25-year-old’s first senior ICC title. He was part of the reserves when India won the 2024 T20 World Cup and despite his best efforts, the team failed on the final hurdle at the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“Felt amazing, for the most part, I was sitting back and enjoying Rohit’s batting,” Gill said after the final. “We kept talking to each other and the partnership was very important for us. He told me it doesn’t matter how many balls you are behind, just keep looking at the scoreboard and you have to play till the end. Definitely very satisfying, we missed out on the last one playing in 2023. Winning this one is an amazing feeling, winning 8 ODIs back to back starting with the ODIs against England.”
Other team India members have also reached back home after the tournament. Unlike after the 2024 T20 World Cup, there’s no victory parade planned and the players will get a much-needed break ahead of the IPL.
Gill will lead the Gujarat Titans for a second time this year. Earlier in the day, the franchise released a video of India international Mohammed Siraj speaking about his interaction with the skipper when he was selected in the 2025 auction.
“Shubman’s room was next to mine,” Siraj said. “So as soon as my name was announced, he kept knocking. He was telling me, ‘you’re definitely coming here now (GT) don’t stress. And when I was picked up by the Gujarat Titans, he was taking a shower, he came to me with a towel wrapped around him, hugged me and said, ‘Welcome to the Gujarat Titans family’.”
