Travis Head was batting on 39 runs from 32 balls when Indian captain Rohit Sharma introduced Varun Chakaravarthy into the attack, and on the second ball of his first over of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal match between India and Australia in Dubai, the 33-year-old mystery spinner dismissed Head. Head, who was given a lifeline by Mohammed Shami on the first legal delivery of the match, tried to play a big shot against Varun, but he failed to connect the ball properly, and it went straight up.
Shubman Gill, who was fielding near the boundary rope, kept his nerve calm and completed a brilliant catch.
Before returning back to the pavilion, Head hammered five fours and two sixes during his 33-ball stay at the crease and scored 39 runs. He added 50 runs for the second wicket with Australia captain Steve Smith after Mohammed Shami removed Cooper Connolly for a nine-ball duck in the third over of the match.
Head’s record vs India in ODIs
Head has played 11 ODIs matches against India so far, and with the help of one century and one fifty, he has 423 runs to his name. The left-handed batter hammered 137 runs against the Rohit Sharma-led side in the last 50-match played between the two sides in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023, and helped Men in Yellow win the ODI World Cup title for the record-extending sixth time.
In the WTC 2023 final between India and Australia, which was played at The Oval from June 7-11, Head scored 163 runs in the first innings and 18 in the second.
