The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)‘s unbox at the Chinnaswamy Stadium event captured a hilarious yet wholesome moment between Virat Kohli and Phil Salt.
The English wicketkeeper-batter, RCB’s newest recruit, hit Kohli on the side of the head with one of the balls that the players were throwing into the crowd as souvenirs. The former RCB captain took a few minutes to realize who was the perpetrator, but as soon as he did, he chased Salt with a smile on his face.
It was just friendly banter as Kohli went straight and hugged him, joked a bit more and continued walking the lap around the ground with the rest of the teammates. RCB’s camera didn’t get the full incident but captured Kohli’s reaction after being hit and Salt’s failed attempt to sneak away from him.

I just saw Virat in my eye-line,” Salt said in the video. “An honestly, I just got him so nicely in the side of the head. He literally got whiplashed looking around for me. And… I don’t know who was pointing at me, he thought it was someone else and then his eyes turned to me and he looked serious. I wasn’t sticking around! I tried to get straight out of there but he was on me in no time at all. If there’s footage of that, it’ll be very, very funny.”
It’s a good sign for RCB that their likely openers have started to bond well already. Kohli has been at RCB for all his career and has played with many top-order batters over the years.
RCB signed Salt for a substantial sum of Rs. 11.50 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. He was one of the best-performing openers last season and played a big role in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) title charge.
However, since then, his form has been wobbly. RCB would hope he can use the pre-season practice games to find his rhythm before the franchise starts the season against the defending champions at their home, the Eden Gardens, on March 22.
