West Indies vs South Africa, 2nd Test Day 1 LIVE: Hello and welcome to our coverage of Day 1 of the second Test match between the West Indies and South Africa, taking place at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The hosts will certainly look to ride the momentum from Alick Athanaze’s heroic knock which allowed them to snatch a draw in the previous game. But they had to also thank the weather gods for taking some time off as well which allowed them to share the spoils despite being on the brink of defeat.

For South Africa, an additional spinner could serve them well. The conditions in the Caribbean do entail the need for more than one spinner. Keshav Maharaj has been decent on his end but the burden could be too much for him if he is expected to do all the work from one end.

On a slow track, it is very much possible that the game could see another stalemate, but with a series victory on the cards for both sides, it would serve them well to show more intent on the field across the five days.

West Indies’s playing XI: Kraigg Brathwaite (C), Mikyle Louis, Keacy Carty, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Joshua Da Silva (WK), Gudakesh Motie, Jomel Warrican, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales

South Africa’s playing XI: Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Temba Bavuma (C), David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (WK), Wiaan Mulder, Keshav Maharaj, Dane Piedt, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi
