The 2019 ODI World Cup final between England and New Zealand at Lord’s ended in a tie, followed by a Super Over, which also ended in a tie. Eventually, the World Cup trophy was handed to England on the boundary count rule.

Will the same rule be followed for the Champions Trophy final?
No. The ICC has stopped following the boundary count rule since the controversial ODI World Cup final of 2019. If the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions trophy final between India and New Zealand ends in a tie, then a Super Over will take place between the two teams.
What happens if IND vs NZ Champions Trophy final ends in a tie?
In case the Super Over also ends in a tie, then another Super Over will be played. The teams will keep playing Super Overs until a winner is decided.
Similarly, the ICC has also kept a reserve day to find a Champions Trophy 2025 winner in case rain plays spoilsport on Sunday (9 March) in Dubai. The Champions Trophy final
can be moved to the reserve day– Monday (10 March)- if needed. However, the ICC playing regulations for the Champions Trophy 2025 state that umpires have to try everything possible to conclude the final on Sunday.
“If play is interrupted on the scheduled day, the umpires shall use the available extra time and, if necessary, reduce the number of overs to try to achieve a result on that day,” the playing conditions read.
“In making their decisions in relation to ground, weather and light, the umpires shall aim to maximise play on the scheduled day of the match in order to achieve a result on that day, as if there was no Reserve Day available.”
For the final to be deemed complete, each team should have had the opportunity to bat for a minimum of twenty-five (25) overs, as the ICC playing conditions state.
In case it’s not possible on the scheduled day (Sunday, 9 March), then the reserve day will be used. However, if the match had started on the scheduled day, then it will resume on reserve day from the point it stopped.
