We are one game away from bidding yet another edition of the ICC Champions Trophy goodbye, with India and New Zealand set to lock horns in the final after winning defeating Australia and South Africa respectively in the semi-finals. The Men in Blue somewhat avenged the heartbreak that they had suffered at the hands of the Aussies in the final of the 2023 ICC World Cup in Ahmedabad,
defeating Steve Smith’s men by four wickets in Dubai on Tuesday.

New Zealand would then hand South Africa a 50-run loss the following day in Lahore, handing the Proteas yet another defeat in the semi-final of an ICC ODI tournament in the process.

With the two semi-finals taking place in two different countries, one wonders where Sunday’s final will take place.

Where will the final of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy take place?

India and New Zealand will lock horns on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the same venue where the
Men in Blue had emerged victorious by 44 runs last week.

Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium was originally named as the venue for the final in the draft schedule prepared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last year.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had refused to send the Rohit Sharma-led side to Pakistan due to security concerns as well as political tensions, because of which the PCB was forced to accept a ‘Hybrid Model’ in which India were to play all of their matches in Dubai.

The venue for the final, thus, remained undecided until Tuesday as it was dependent on India’s campaign. If India qualified for the summit clash, then Dubai would host the match under the ‘Hybrid Model’. If not, then Lahore would host it, as per the PCB’s original plans.

Dubai will be hosting the final of an ICC event for the first time on Sunday. It had previously hosted the final of the 2018 and 2022 Asia Cup as well as the 2021 T20 World Cup.
