WPL 2025: Mumbai Indians looks to settle scores against Delhi Capitals in top-of-the-table clash

Almost two weeks back, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) gave the Women’s Premier League (WPL) faithful a match for the ages after Arundhati Reddy ran for her life and won DC the match on the final ball.

On Friday, both sides meet again for the reverse fixture at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with both MI and DC sitting first and second, respectively, in the standings as of February 27.

Both sides are coming off convincing victories – DC beat Gujarat Giants by six wickets and MI breezed past UP Warriorz with an eight-wicket win.

Nat Sciver-Brunt, who scored an unbeaten 80 against DC in Vadodara, can hurt the opposition with both bat and ball.

She snatched the Orange Cap off Ellyse Perry’s hands during her unbeaten 75 off 44 balls against the Warriorz and also took three wickets for 18. Hayley Matthews is also coming into this fixture on the back of a well-made half-century.

Spinners Sanskriti Gupta and Amelia Kerr have been good for the inaugural champion in restricting the batters and taking crucial wickets in the middle and final overs.

In the DC camp, skipper Meg Lanning is going through a rough patch. The former Australia captain fell cheaply to deliveries which nipped back into her in consecutive matches leaving the batter visibly frustrated.

However, her compatriot Jess Jonassen, who notched up a match-winning 32-ball 61 against the Giants after being promoted up the order, felt that Lanning’s form is certainly not a concern.

Big-hitter Shafali Verma has been contributing with quickfire knocks this season and will be looking to continue in that vein.

The Capitals’ pace battery – including the likes of Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp, and one of Arundhati and Titas Sadhu – have been among wickets all through this WPL leg.

Annabel Sutherland, who scalped three wickets against MI this season, will be another bowler looking to trouble Harmanpreet Kaur and Co.
