The first ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club in Harare was called due to rain on Tuesday.
Rain had already delayed the start of the play earlier, resulting in the game being reduced to a 28-over per side contest. Afghanistan put Zimbabwe to bat, and the host scored 44 for five in 9.2 overs before the rain stopped play again.
Azmatullah Omarzai picked four wickets in 4.2 overs while AM Ghazanfar picked the other wicket. Captain Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza were at the crease when the players had to walk off the field.
One hour later, the match was called off.
The two teams will again on Thursday and Saturday to play the remainder of ODI series before switching to whites to play two-match Test series starting December 26.
Before ODIs, Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 in the three-match T20I series.
